Hva er det vi underviser?

Vi underviser Bruce Lee´s Jeet Kune Do (JKD).

Originally Bruce Lee compiled aspects from different Martial Arts to fill gaps or weaknesses in his own fighting development. The style that he created was called JUN FAN GUNG FU and is considered a style or system, unlike JEET KUNE DO which is a philosophy of personal development. The major elements of Jun Fan Martial Arts consist of: Wing Chun (Jun Fan Method), Kickboxing, Boxing, Chin An (Grappling) and Fencing.

JKD can be broken down into two areas: JKD Kickboxing and JKD Trapping (within the trapping/in-fighting range will be elements of Grappling and Ground-fighting). The goal of the art is to develop your empty hand combative skills. In empty hand combat there are four ranges of combat: 1) Kicking Range 2) Hand Range 3) Trapping/In-Fighting Range 4) Grappling and Ground-fighting. The goal of JKD is to develop each of these ranges so that you can function effectively and efficiently, regardless of range.

JKD Kickboxing

The Jun Fan Kickboxing phase began in 1965. The arts influencing Jun Fan Kickboxing were from many different structures and origins. Western Boxing, Thai Boxing, French Savate, Filipino Sikaran, Northern and Southern Chinese Gung Fu, Wing Chun, and others were used.

In 1970, Sifu Dan Inosanto added Filipino Boxing (Panantukan) to the curriculum. This was done primarily for two reasons. First, it added more sophistication to the Western Boxing, and secondly, it added the ability to drill realistically and combatively without major risk of injury.

Presently, there are many drills and training methods that are being used, expanded upon, and created into the Kickboxing cirriculum. As is in athletics, older methods are updated and adapted where necessary, while the fundamental principles remain the same. The overall goal of Jun Fan Kickboxing is to coordinate the kicking and boxing so that they are totally blended.

JKD Trapping/In-Fighting

In this range you are close enough to trap or immobilize your opponent's arms. The goal of this range is to crash through or go around any barrier your opponent may put up, or hit.

The tapping range is an aggressive range that is primarily offensive. The majority of the trapping methods in the Jun Fan method are derived from Wing Chun Gung Fu. This range of combat is the most effective and efficient means to end a combative situation. The in-fighting tools, such as elbows, knees, headbutts, and body manipulations are all integral parts of the Jun Fan Trapping range. The Trapping range can be brutally simple and purely combative or highly sophisticated, concentrating on the subtitles of sensitivity or working with your opponent's energy to overcome and dominate the in-fighting range.

JKD Grappling and Ground-Fighting

Another integral part of the JKD was the Grappling range. As with any other range of combat there are offensive, defensive, and counter tactics involved with the Grappling range. However, it is important to realize that there are elements that are totally unique to Grappling and Ground-Fighting.

The Grappling range has five areas of concentration: 1) Locking and Submission 2) Choking and Strangulation 3) Pressure Point and Pain Compliance 4) Time Holds 5) Ground Hitting Tactics. Each area is trained and developed through a variety of progressive training methods and actual Grappling drills.

The principles and techniques come from a variety of grappling arts. Elements from Western Wrestling systems such as Greco-Roman and Freestyle, Russian Sambo and English Catch-As-Catch-Can are utilized, as well as, Japanese arts such as Judo, Jiu-jitsu, and Shoot Wrestling.

The combination of all these arts complete the picture of Jun Fan Martial Arts. It is important to realize that in a combative situation anything can happen. Therefore, the goal of the JJKD is to become a totally well rounded fighter. It is necessary then to "fit into any range; feel instantly what tool will work at the range in which you happen to find yourself in; and try to maintain the optimum range for the particular situation you're in"(Larry Hartsell, original student of Bruce Lee). Whether in the kicking range, hand range, trapping range, or the grappling range the well rounded martial artist will be able to function and dominate where ever they end up.

JKD Weaponary

In our defense against weapon, we use Filipino Martial Arts as our source, but also it is inportant that we use it with JKD in mind
